India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun said on Wednesday that Shahdul Thakur has the ability to become a fast bowling all-rounder as the team cannot bowl due to a back injury. Pandya has not been included in India’s Test squad for the tour of England, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Talking to PTI, Arun said that the final decision on the future options will be up to the selectors, but Thakur has definitely made a strong claim. “It’s up to the selectors to find him (the all-rounder) and then we can revise those all-rounders,” Arun said. Shardul has proved that he can become an all-rounder. He did a great job in Australia. Pandya played the last Test during the tour of England in 2018. He has suffered a back injury since 2019 and was recently a minor injury to his shoulder during the Indian Premier League.

Arun acknowledged that finding a good alternative like Pandya is the most difficult task. He said, ‘I wish we could only make such a bowler. Hardik is an extraordinary talent but unfortunately he has to undergo a back operation and it is not easy to come back. Arun said, “He bowled against England. I think he did a good job. But for him to bowl consistently, we have to do it better and work on strengthening it.” Thakur, who has played two Tests, impressed in a Test match against Australia this year and took seven wickets in the match, scoring a half-century in Brisbane.
Arun said, ‘In the ideal situation, yes (we need to make a fast bowling all-rounder), some attend (in domestic cricket) because we are always with the Indian team, so we don’t have a chance to see domestic all-rounders. Thakur has expressed his desire to see him as a bowling all-rounder and is expected to get plenty of opportunities in the upcoming England tour.

Arun said the biologically safe environment is likely to remain a part of the game for a long time and that all six fast bowlers will be rotated during the tour, as the team manages the workload of its players. India will have to play six Tests in their tour of England starting on June 18 with the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand. England have so far set clear policy on top teams to deal with biologically safe environment fatigue amid the Kovid-19 epidemic.
