Why National Pollution Control Day is Celebrated
In fact, ‘National Pollution Control Day’ is celebrated in memory of those killed in the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster. On the night of December 2 and 3, 1984, a gas tragedy struck at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) plant in Madhya Pradesh’s capital. About 4,000 people have lost their lives. This day is celebrated to make people aware of the harmful effects of industrial disasters along with all forms of pollution.
