Ajay Seth took over as Secretary of Economic Affairs on Friday. The 1987 batch of Karnataka cadre officer, Seth of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), took the pivotal moment when the second wave of Kovid-19 saw a crisis cloud over the resurgence of the economy.

The Cabinet Appointments Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 6 approved the appointment of Seth as the new Economic Affairs Secretary.

From 2000 to 2004, Seth was deputy secretary and director in the Department of Expenditure and Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Finance. From 2004 to 2008, he was an Advisor to the Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
