Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 33 runs in the first ODI

Bangladesh won the first match of the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 33 runs in a match played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. With that, Bangladesh have taken a 1-0 lead in the series. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 257 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Chasing a target, Sri Lanka were all out for 224 in 48.1 overs.

Vanindu Hasunga scored 74 from Sri Lanka. In addition, Kusal Perera scored 30 and Kusal Mendis 24. Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan Miraj took four wickets for 33 runs. Mustafizur Rahman also took 3 wickets. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim bagged the man of the match award for his 84 runs. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad shared 109 runs for the fifth wicket. The team lost 6 wickets for 256 runs.

Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal holds a special place during his 52-run innings. Tamim is the 10th batsman in the world to score 14,000 runs as an opener in international cricket. The list includes the names of legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle. Tamim Iqbal has now scored 14011 runs in all three formats. Former Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record for most runs as opener. For Sri Lanka, off-spinner Dhananjay DeSilva took 45 wickets.
