Batla House Encounter: Terrorist Ariz Khan’s conviction in the 2008 Batla House Encounter case was heard on Monday in Delhi’s socket court. After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defendant, the court reserved its verdict until four o’clock in the evening. Delhi Police demanded that terrorist Ariz Khan be hanged during the debate on punishment. The terrorist had killed his promising inspector, Mohan Chand Sharma, police said. This terrorist is entitled to the death penalty.

Terrorist Ariz Khan was convicted by the socket court in the case last Monday. The court said the prosecution was successful in proving the presence of Ariz alias Junaid in this case.

According to information, Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was hired in a special cell of Delhi Police in the 2008 Batla House encounter, was killed and two other policemen were injured when terrorists shot and killed them. On September 19, 2008, 44-year-old Mohan Chand Sharma was hit by three bullets while catching five terrorists hiding in Batla House in South Delhi. He later died in hospital during treatment.

On March 8, the court sentenced Ariz Khan on charges of murder, attempted murder, assault on government employees, obstructing a government employee and severely injuring a government official, including the Arms Act. The court has instructed the investigating officer to provide information on the family, social and economic conditions of the Delhi Police Special Cell’s martyred inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and the two injured policemen. The compensation will be considered for the families of victims, the court said.

Earlier in 2013, terrorist Shehzad Ahmed was convicted in this case. During the Batla House encounter, the two men managed to escape, killing their three accomplices, Atif Amen, Mohammed Saif and Mohammed Sajid at the hands of police.

Who is Ariz Khan?

Notably, Arij Khan was the main conspirator in the 2008 Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and UP court blasts. 165 people were killed and 535 injured in these blasts. At that time, Ariz Khan had a reward of Rs 15 lakh and a red corner notice was issued against him by Interpol. Azam Khan alias Junaid was arrested by the Special Cell Team in February 2018.
