Gandhi was in Punjab as part of his three-day Kheti Bachao Yatra during which he held several tractor rallies to protest against the three new agricultural laws. He claimed that these laws would affect not only farmers but also consumers.

The Center has said that the laws will be beneficial for farmers and their income will increase. He claimed that many institutions, including the media that raised the voice of the people, have been captured by the BJP-led central government. On the last day of his visit in Punjab, the Congress leader alleged that the Prime Minister does not understand these agricultural laws. He challenged the Prime Minister that if these new laws are in the interest of the farming community, then he should come to the state and stand with the farmers
