Despite spending more than Rs 164 crore, 90 issues continue to emerge in the new portal

The new income tax portal is creating trouble for taxpayers, tax professionals and the government. The government has paid Infosys over Rs 164 crore to set up this portal to reduce taxpayer problems and complete the return process in a short time. But since its launch in June, the portal’s problems haven’t diminished. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also instructed Infosys on this.

The finance minister had a meeting with Infosys officials in June after receiving complaints from taxpayers and tax professionals. In this, Infosys has promised to remove the portal issue. But, two months on, the problems have not subsided. Infosys was awarded a lease in 2019 to develop the next generation income tax return filing system. The idea behind this is to reduce the income tax returns from 63 days to one day. The government will spend Rs 164.5 crore on Infosys from January 2019 to June 2021.

The finance minister has held a meeting with the rights

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with Infosys officials on June 22 to review the problems faced by the Income Tax Portal. In a written reply to Parliament, Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary, on behalf of various stakeholders including Indian Chartered Accountants (ICAI), has provided details of over 700 issues, including over 90 issues, tax professionals and taxpayers. The website is slow, but sends notifications quickly

The Income Tax Portal may not work properly in the country but the Income Tax Department’s data analytics system is working perfectly and even sending penalties to people in tax matters. If the e-mail is missing, a notice will be sent to the address

In about 25 percent of these cases, the department does not have an e-mail address for such people. Because of this, notices are being sent to their addresses. In many cases, professionals who are exempt from tax and filing returns on the same basis are also covered by the jurisdiction. Through the system, it has been revealed that they have not provided full details of income from other sources to the Income Tax department. He was fined by authorities after reviewing the matter.

Facing these problems

The tab for e-processes is not fully functional. The online correction option is not available. 5, 6, 7 The JSON facility is not available for filing income tax return.
