Follow this easy way to secure Aadhaar so that no one can misuse your details

What does it mean to lock the Aadhaar number?
Locking Aadhaar means locking a 12 digit Aadhaar number and using 16 digit Virtual ID (VID) for all kinds of authentication. There are 2 ways to lock Aadhaar.

Lock this way through the UIDAI website
First go to the uidai.gov.in website.

>> Then click on Aadhaar Lock and Unlock Service under Aadhaar Services.
Now click on Lock UID.
Now you have to enter the 12 digit Aadhaar number (UID). Next, enter your full name as given on the Aadhaar card. Also, enter the zip code.
After this you need to enter the security code (captcha code).
Now you have to click on Zend OTP or Inter TOTP.
Your Aadhaar number will be locked as soon as you enter the one-time password (OTP) on your mobile.
By following the same procedure, you can unlock the Aadhaar number.

Lock this way via SMS
To lock an Aadhaar number via SMS, the Aadhaar cardholder must have a 16-digit VID number. If the user does not have a VID, he or she can create it via the SMS service or the portal that resides on the UIDAI website. Remember that your mobile number must be registered in the UIDAI database to generate Virtual ID (VID) via SMS.

Step 1: SMS to 1947 for OTP from your registered mobile number. In this message, you have to enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number. Suppose your Aadhaar number is 1567 6754 7654, then the message will be – GETOTP7654.

Step 2: After sending SMS from your side, UIDAI sends you a 6 digit OTP via SMS.

Step 3: Now you have to send another SMS, this is – Lock your Aadhaar last 4 digits and 6 digit OTP number. UIDAI locks your Aadhaar number after sending the SMS. You will also get its confirmation message.

Follow this procedure to lock biometrics details in Aadhaar
First go to the uidai.gov.in website.
Then click on Lock / Unlock Biometrics under Aadhaar Services.
– Opens a new page. There, you have to click on Lock / Unlock Biometrics after ticking.
Now you have to enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number or VID here.
After this you need to enter the captcha code. Now click Send OTP or Enter TOTP.
Doing this will lock your biometrics.
