Gadkari’s appeal to Tesla is to start production as soon as possible in India

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has appealed to US-based electric car manufacturer Tesla to start production in India soon. Gadkari assured Tesla that the government would fully support Tesla. He pointed out to Tesla that other companies would start making Tesla standard vehicles if the company was delayed. Gadkari addressed the Raisina talks. During this time he answered many questions related to electric vehicles, battery making and scrap policy.

Gadkari said Tesla had the golden opportunity to set up a factory here, given India’s emphasis on electric vehicles. Tesla is taking parts from Indian car manufacturers and setting up its hub here is financially rewarding, he said.

In two years the picture will change

Gadkari said, ‘I did a video conference with Tesla Management. I pointed out to them that this is a golden opportunity to start a factory in India, as Tesla is already buying equipment from Indian manufacturers, as regards automotive components. Gadkari expressed confidence that India would be in a position to manufacture Tesla-level electric vehicles in the next two years, focusing on improving Indian products. He said, ‘This is Tesla’s best interest. I suggest you start production here as soon as possible. ‘

Other companies can be killed

Gadkari promised that Tesla could make its own dealerships and export vehicles to other countries. Gadkari suggested that Tesla should start operations in India soon, otherwise other EV manufacturers operating in India would soon be able to manufacture cars from Tesla’s standers. “If you prepare here, we will help you in India,” the minister said. He said the government has placed special emphasis on e-vehicles. The minister said Tesla intends to launch the market from Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai at an early stage. He stressed that India is capable of producing some of the world’s largest e-vehicles in the next five years.

According to recent media reports, Tesla will soon launch its business in India. The company will be bringing its cheap Model 3 sedan by the end of this year. According to the report, the Tesla Model 3 will be imported as a fully-built unit (CBU). It may cost Rs 55 lakh in India.
