Haryana: 54 students found Kovid-19 positive at school in Karnal

More than 50 students of a school in Karnal, Haryana, have been stunned after being infected with the corona virus (Kovid-19). As a result, authorities have been instructed to suspend classes and other academic activities, a senior medical official told news agency ANI on Tuesday.

Karnal Yogesh Sharma Chief Medical Officer (CMO) said that three students of Sainik School in Kunjapur were infected with coronavirus on Monday, followed by samples of 390 students and staff members. Sharma said the report showed that 54 students were Kovid-19 positive.

District Superintendent Nishant Kumar Yadav said that according to the ANI, the school is run by the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defense and its hostels have been declared as containment zones.

The Haryana government has opened schools for students in grades 9 to 12 in December and reopened schools from 3rd to 5th grade from February 24. The government has decided to start regular classes for classes 1 and 2 from Monday March 1st. School hours will be from 10 am to 1.30 pm, the official statement said. Parents are asked to submit a consent letter to the school principal or classroom teacher before sending the children to schools. Those who wish to continue online classes for their children can do so, the statement said.

Schools have been asked to follow all COVID-19 related guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Each school will be divided into three wings, the statement said. If a student is found to be Kovid-19 positive in the wing, the wing is closed for 10 days and the whole school is swatched. If more than one section of students is infected, the entire school will be closed for 10 days.

According to the Haryana Health Department’s health bulletin, the number of infected people has risen to 270,950 after 166 new cases emerged on Monday and the number of deaths in the state has risen to 3,050 after two more deaths due to corona.
