ICMR receives clinical trial approval for horse derived antibodies antisera treatment

The Drug Controller General of India has allowed the first phase of testing the antisera, a potential cure for Kovid-19, on humans. Indian Council of Medical Sciences (ICMR) officials said on Tuesday that the ‘antisera has been developed by injecting inactive SARS COV-2 (virus) into horses.

‘Antisera is developed by ICMR in association with Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company. ICMR Director General Dr. Balram Bhargava said in a press conference on Tuesday, “Together with Biological E. Ltd., we have developed an ‘antisera’ of horses and we have just got permission to conduct clinical trials.”

The antisera has not yet been tested on humans in relation to safety and effectiveness. ‘ Antisera is a type of blood serum that has a high amount of antibodies capable of fighting a particular germ and is given to humans through injections to immediately increase immunity to fight any particular infection. . ”

ICMR had earlier said, “ICMR and Biological E Ltd, Hyderabad have developed highly pure antisera for vaccines and treatment of Kovid-19. The antisera-related study was ‘put on Research Square before it was published’.

Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General of ICMR, said during the press conference of the Union Ministry of Health on Tuesday, “We have prepared a horse sera with biological e. We have completed some studies on horse sera, where we have an approximate dose of antibody to the ampoule. We are awaiting approval for the clinical trial of Horse Serra. ”

Prior to this, several types of viral, bacterial infections, such as rabies, hepatitis B, vaccinia virus, tetanus, botulism, and diarrhea, were attempted from horse sera. ICMR had earlier said in a statement, “Although plasma obtained from patients recovering from Kovid-19 may also serve this purpose, the profile of the antibody varies from one patient to another, This makes it unreliable to manage Kovid-19 patients. ”
