Johnny Bairstow (30) and Daniel Lawrence (25) started well but failed to convert their innings. Jose Butler (17) hit some good shots as he came to the crease, but Shardul Thakur sent him into the pavilion as a clean bowled. Root held one end and completed the 2nd century of his Test career.

Jaspreet Bumrah fell victim to Joe Root playing a spectacular innings of 109 runs. After getting a root wicket, Bumrah accelerated and Sam Curran (32) and Stuart Broad (0) showed their way to the pavilion on consecutive deliveries. Ollie Robinson (15) was dismissed by Mohammad Shami for England’s innings. Chasing a target of 209, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul added 34 runs for the first wicket. By the end of the day, Brad had given England great success by running off Rahul. Rohit Sharma returned unbeaten with 12 runs and Pujara scored 12 runs.
