The first Test of the four-Test series between India and England is being played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The first day of the Test has been completely named for England. Joe Root, captain of the batting team, hit a century in his 100th match and took the team to a strong position. Route 200 with Dominic Sibley helped England score 263 for the third wicket, losing only 3 wickets at the end of the day. Meanwhile, former England captain Nasir Hussain has praised Root.

Joe Root scored a century in his 100th Test match against India at the special club of Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith and Inzamam-ul-Haq. Root also became the first cricketer in the world to score consecutive centuries in Tests of 98, 99 and 100. Root returned unbeaten after scoring 128 at the end of the first day’s play. Thanks to Root’s innings, the Indian bowlers looked completely backward on the first day of the Test.
