IND vs. SL, 2nd T20I: Sri Lanka triumph in thrilling match against ‘weak’ India, level series

Sri Lanka on Wednesday won the three-match series 1-1 with a four-wicket win over India Cricket in the second T20. With only five specialist batsmen without their major players. Nine Indian players were unavailable for selection due to the Caretrain protocol after all-rounder Karnal Pandya was found to be corona positive. India brought in six specialist bowlers, including fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who never bowled an over. IPL stars Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devadath Padikkal, Nitish Rana and Chetan Zakaria have been included in the Indian team.

When sent to bat first, India faced Sri Lankan spinners on a hard pitch, scoring 132 for five. Sri Lanka responded with two balls to spare in the match, which was exciting until the last over. Sri Lanka’s Dhananjay De Silva scored an unbeaten 40 off 34 balls while Minod Bhanuka scored 36 off 31 balls. Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets for India. Vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave up 12 runs in his last over, giving Sri Lanka only eight runs in the last over.

It was hard to stop Zakaria from playing his first game. The difficulty faced by Indian batsmen on the tough pitch of the Premadasa Stadium is that they can only measure 42 dot balls if they hit only seven fours and one six in 20 overs. Captain Shikhar Dhawan scored 40 off 42 balls while playing carefully. Heavy rain made it difficult to score on slow ground, but Padekal scored 29 off 23 balls. Ruturath Gaekwad, who debuted in international cricket, scored 21 runs off 18 balls. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was caught by Minode Bhanuka in an attempt to play a pool shot from his short delivery. There were only five specialist batsmen in the Indian team, so Dhawan did not play in his familiar offensive style.
