IND vs. SL: ‘Annoying’ Angelo Mathews hints at retirement from international cricket soon

A series of controversies in Sri Lankan cricket do not take its name to a halt. Angelo Mathews, a veteran of the contract controversy, has now announced his retirement from international cricket. Mathews has informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) about his plans to retire from international cricket. Mathews is angry at Sri Lankan cricket over the deal. Of the 30 players in Sri Lanka, 29 have signed, but Matthews is not alone. He also withdrew from the limited-overs series against India on July 13, citing personal reasons.

Matthews has informed Sri Lankan cricket about his plans to retire from international cricket, according to a Newswire report. The 34-year-old Mathews told the SLC that he was discussing the matter and that he would explain his decision in the coming weeks.

In the current contract with Sri Lanka Cricket, the top 24 players have been awarded contracts in four categories based on achievement. Six players have been awarded ‘A’ Class contracts, with an annual salary ranging from $ 70,000 to $ 100,000.

Mathews, who made his international debut in 2008, is the captain of the Test team. He took over the captaincy at the age of 25 and was the youngest captain in Sri Lanka. But, he resigned from leadership in 2017. Mathews has played 90 Tests, 218 ODIs and 49 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka so far.
