IPL 2021: Franchisees trust BCCI over availability of foreign players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will host the remaining matches of 2021 in the UAE. These matches will be held in the September-October window. After this the franchisees have started working on logistics. The teams will arrive in the UAE in the third week of August. Furthermore, a final decision on the cornerstone protocol will be taken after negotiations with the BCCI and the franchisee.

The presence of foreign players in the remaining matches of IPL 2021 is a concern for all franchises. The franchise is confident that the BCCI will hold positive discussions with foreign boards and make the remaining IPL 14 for overseas players available. Speaking to ANI, a franchise official said that we have begun our talks and our preparations for IPL 2021. But the specific date for the departure of the UAE can be disclosed only when the BCCI decides on the current rules in consultation with the Emirates Cricket Board and the UAE government.

“We have received information that the rest of the IPL will be held in the UAE,” the official said. We know that BCCI officials are in talks with the ECB about the action plan and are currently in Dubai. So once we get clarity on the protocol, what is their quarantine once teams reach the UAE? You can reserve hotel rooms only after this.

“The preparations for the T20 World Cup may be on the minds of some boards and they may be reluctant to release their players,” another official said. After the BCCI AAGM, we were told that the board would speak to foreign boards and review the availability of foreign cricketers. We are sure the BCCI will find a better solution. So we have to wait.
