Chris Morris, the most expensive player to sell at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, has the added responsibility of leading the Rajasthan Royals fast bowling attack in the absence of Jofra Archer, who was injured in the upcoming innings but that does not change his role in the team. Fast bowler Archer was unable to play in the first half of the IPL due to an elbow injury on a recent England tour, which was a big blow to the Rajasthan Royals campaign.
In the absence of Archer, newcomer Maurice, who joined the team, is set to lead a fast bowling attack. At a virtual press conference, he said, ‘What team I played for in the IPL, my role is to bowl in a new ball and death over. There is no change in it. There are always fast bowlers in the team and I play a supporting role.
A big statement from former selectors – India should not sit with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at World Cup
“If I lead a bowling attack it won’t be a new role and if I play a supporting role in it, it’s not new to me,” Morris said. But when you lead an attack, there is little responsibility. But as I said, this is no different for me. The South African all-rounder was bought by the Rajasthan Royals last month for Rs 16.25 crore, making him the best-selling player in the history of IPL auctions.
Asked about the pressure from an expensive player tag, he said, “I think it’s normal to have some pressure when something like this happens.” If I say there is no pressure then it is a lie but I have been fortunate in the past that I am selling on a very large scale. He said, “But in the end you have to perform no matter how much you buy.”
After losing all three series, the English coach said – I’m proud of my team
