JEE and NEET to be held in September 2020, Supreme Court dismisses appeal

The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a petition seeking to postpone the Joint Entrance Examination and the National Eligibility and Entrance Test 2020.

If NEET 2020 is scheduled for September 13, JEE Main will be held from September 1st to September 6th. Both tests have been postponed several times due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic. This year, more than 2.5 lakh students have registered and have been waiting for the final verdict of the exam.

“The students’ careers cannot be endangered for long,” the bench said.

A bench of justices Arun Mishra, BR Gawai and Krishna Murari heard the appeal of 11 students seeking to postpone the NEET-JEE exam.

Times’ COVID-19 times life must continue. Can we just stop the tests? We have to move on. If the tests are not done, is it not a loss to the country? Students miss the academic year. Are you not demanding that the courts reopen? Why not conduct tests with precautions? Justice Arun Mishra asks Attorney Alok Alok Srivastava while listening to the plea.

Lawyer Srivastava told the Supreme Court that millions of students are “looking at the SC for relief,” arguing that the vaccine may come soon and that they do not want an indefinite postponement but should postpone it for some time.

“CBSE, ICSE and NIOS have also been solved. All the AIBE and ICAI exams have been postponed, ”Srivastava told SC.

In its petition dated August 6, the NTA has indefinitely postponed the National Council of Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination (NCHM-JEE) 2020 scheduled for 22.06.2020 in view of the Kovid-19 epidemic. However, now that the COVID-19 crisis has escalated, the NTA is still conducting JEE Main and NEET tests. “

Request for adjournment:
The petition demanded that tests be conducted “only after the restoration of the country’s normalcy in the post-Kovid crisis”.
The petitioners are urging the court to increase the number of test centers for both NEET and JEE so that there is at least one center in each district.
The application is requested to provide new opportunities for all JEE and NEET aspirants who wish to apply and select a new test center.
