Hyderabad: Kavita, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has won the Vidhan Sabha by-election from the Nizamabad local body constituency.

Three candidates, including Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Kavitha, were in the arena. Kavitha received 728 votes, BJP 56 and Congress 28. Kavitha, who is also a former MP, is now said to be playing an important role in state politics.

Kavita won the 2014 elections by a margin of 1.64 lakh votes in the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, losing 70,000 votes to BJP’s Arvind Dharmapuri in 2019. Having been neutral for some time now, he has started a new innings with the entry of Vidya Parishad.

Four members of his family have been active in politics, including KCR and Kavitha. Information Technology Minister KCR’s son KT. Rama Rao is TRS president. KCR’s nephew T Harish Rao has also been elected MLA for the sixth term.

Rama Rao and Harish were both ministers in the previous cabinet. This time Chandrasekhar Rao conveyed the message that he was his successor by abandoning Harish and leaving his son alone in the cabinet. Now the daughter has also returned to state politics.
