Karachi Kings beat Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2021 playoffs

Defending champion Karachi Kings defeated Quetta Gladiators by 14 runs in a do-or-die match in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoff. Batting first, Karachi scored 176 for 7, thanks to a stunning innings by Danish Aziz. In reply, Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed could only manage 162 runs despite his spectacular innings of 51 runs. The Karachi Kings and Lahore Khalanders were equal in 14 points but the Karachi side got a good run-rate advantage.

Batting fast, Aziz scored 45 off just 13 balls. Jack Wildmouth hit four consecutive sixes and two boundaries in the 19th over of the left-arm batsman’s innings. In reply, captain Sarfaraz Ahmed scored an unbeaten 51 off 33 balls while Quetta managed only 162 for seven. For Karachi, fast bowler Mohammad Ilyas claimed three wickets for 39 while Arshad Iqbal took two for 39.

Sharjil Khan and Babar Azam got the Karachi Kings off to a good start. The pair scored 71 for the first wicket in just 9.1 overs. Babur dismissed Abdul Nasir with 23 runs. After that the team lost their four wickets very quickly. Captain Imad Wasim also returned to the pavilion after scoring just 3 runs. Gladiators’ Arish Khan took four wickets. Chasing a 177-run target, Quetta Gladiators could not play any batsmen other than captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.
