Load shedding in Delhi is the lowest in two decades, with 81.74% increase in the number of electricity consumers: Economic Survey

Load shedding (power cuts) in the capital Delhi has fallen to 0.03% of total consumption, the lowest in the last two decades. This information is provided in the Delhi Economic Survey Report.

Electricity purchased in Delhi has increased from 32,744 mu in 2010-11 to 35,419 mu in 2019-20, but 14.72% of total power purchases from Delhi government power plants come from their own plants and 85.28% have been purchased from other sources.

In Delhi, where electricity prices have not risen since 2015, about 42 lakh households (more than 83 per cent of the total domestic electricity consumers) have received electricity subsidy.

According to a study by the Center for Market Research and Social Development Pvt Ltd, aided by the Planning Division of the Government of Delhi, a house in the capital costs Rs 715 per month due to zero or subsidized electricity bills.

The Delhi government’s zero electricity bill scheme for 200 customers who use 200 units of electricity every month. In addition, customers with monthly usage ranging from 201 to 400 units will receive a subsidy of Rs 800.
