Modi Govt okays induction of nuke capable Shaurya missile amid Ladakh standoff with China

Amid deadlock with China over the border dispute in eastern Ladakh, the Modi government has approved the induction of the Shaurya missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons into the fleet. With this, the deployment of a 700 km range surface-to-surface supersonic Shaurya missile has also been approved. At the same time, the development of K-5 submarine ballistic missile of 5,000 km range has also gained momentum.

The missile, created by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), is a ground-breaking BA-05 missile from the submarine. The last test was conducted secretly on 3 October in Balasore, Odisha. The strategic force command has to decide where the missile will be deployed. According to top missile experts, Shaurya is a delivery system that can be stored in a composite canister. Because of this it is easy to deploy the missile anywhere and avoid external objects.

India tests nuclear-powered Shaurya missile amid tension from China, may target 800 km away

This missile operates at a speed of Mach 7 or 2.4 kilometers per second at an altitude of 50 kilometers. It hits Mach 4 when it hits the target. Its warhead is 160 kg. The speed of the missile is so fast that the enemy’s radar sitting across the border will get less than 400 seconds to detect, track and intercept it. The missile will soon be deployed at locations identified by the Indian Strategic Force Command under the guidance of the National Security Council.

A senior government official said that its approval and deployment came at a time when the soldiers of India and China in Ladakh are face to face. The testing and deployment of short-range delivery platforms clearly states the intention of the Modi government.
