Mt lemmon fire: Roads closed due to fire breakout

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has announced that the Mt. Lemmon Highway is currently closed as a result of the Molino 2 Fire which began on Sunday afternoon.

As of 7 p.m on Sunday, the U.S. Forest Service has stated that the Molino 2 Fire, which started near a frequently used shooting location, has consumed an estimated 150 to 200 acres of land. The fire is currently spreading up both the north and south sides of the ridgeline, located above the Molino Basin Campground.

To address the Molino 2 Fire, three engines, two helicopters, and a very large air tanker (VLAT) have been deployed. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) has requested that people steer clear of the fire’s vicinity to enable emergency crews to reach it unhindered. Furthermore, Catalina Highway is presently inaccessible to anyone who isn’t a resident.
