Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the video conferencing of the ‘New Bhupur – New Khurja Division’ of the country’s first Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC). The new Bhupur-New Khurja division of EDFC’s 351km stretch is estimated at Rs 5,750 crore. This section reduces congestion from the existing Kanpur-Delhi main line and enables Indian trains to run faster. PM Modi inaugurated EDFC’s Operational Control Center (OCC) in Prayagaraj.

What is the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor
The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) is 1856 kilometers long. It starts from Sahnewal near Ludhiana (Punjab) and ends at Dankuni in West Bengal, passing through the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. This section includes local industries such as Aluminum Industries (Pukhrayan Region of Kanpur Diet District), Dairy Zone (ura Raya District), Textile Manufacturing / Block Printing (Itawa District), Glass Warehousing (Firozabad District), Potri (Khurja Production in Bulandshahr District), Asphoti Hathras district) and opens up new opportunities for locks and hardware (Aligarh district). The project aims to accelerate infrastructure and industry in the states along the corridor. 57% of this corridor passes through UP, passing through many states.
