An 81-year-old retired officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) is accused of committing suicide by shooting himself at his residence in South Delhi’s Defense Colony on Wednesday morning. Police have begun an investigation by sending the corpse to a post-mortem.
Former IFS officer Ranjit Sethi wrote a suicide note saying he did not want to live anymore, police said. Around 7:30 in the morning, police received information that a man had shot himself in the Defense Colony. Ranjit Sethi’s servant calls PCR and says Sethi shot himself, saying he is currently alive and needs an ambulance.
Deputy Police Commissioner (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said that the police reached the spot after information that Sethi had shot at his room. He was immediately rushed to Mulchand Hospital where he died.
Sethi, who had been hospitalized for several days due to some illness, returned home on Tuesday, she said. A suicide note has been received and further investigation is underway, police said.
Sethi said his family has a wife and two children. Police are investigating whether his pistol used for suicide was his license.
