Rishi Panchami Vrat Katha:

A long time ago a Brahmin named Vidarbha lived with his family, his family consisted of wife, son and a daughter. The Brahmin married his daughter to a good Brahmin clan but unfortunately his son-in-law died prematurely, after which his widowed daughter returned to her home.

One day at midnight his daughter’s body started getting insects, after which the Brahmin took his daughter to a sage.

The sage said that the Brahmin’s daughter was a Brahmin in a previous life and once she had done housework even when she was menstruating and touching the utensils, due to this, there are insects in her body.

In the scriptures, it is forbidden to do the work of a menstruating woman but the daughter of a Brahmin did not follow it, due to which she has to undergo punishment in this birth.

The sage further said that if the daughter of a Brahmin, by paying obeisance to the Lord, would get forgiveness from the sins of the previous birth if she worshiped Panchami on the occasion of reverence.

According to the sage’s daughter, the girl worshiped and fasted according to the law, after which she was blessed and got rid of the sins of previous birth. In this way, fasting of Rishi Panchami eliminates all sins.
