Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested that Suryakumar Yadav should be sent to bat for the third spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup. He said he was an ideal player to bat at this number. Captain Virat Kohli can open an innings with Rohit Sharma at the T20 World Cup. Kohli and Rohit Sharma opened the innings with a 94-run partnership for the first time in the fifth T20 series against England in March this year. He also played a bat opening role against New Zealand in 2014.
Manjrekar said, “Yes, I think he is at the forefront of this race (Suryakumar), especially when there are reports that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play the role of openers for India. (KL) I have no idea what Rahul’s plans are, certainly someone like Suryakumar Yadav will find a place in the team. I have rarely seen anyone bat so effectively in the entire IPL (Indian Premier League). The T20 World Cup will be held from October 17 in UAE and Oman instead of India.
Commenting on the upcoming series against Sri Lanka starting July 13, Manjrekar said he would rather see Ishaan Kishan batting consistently (consistently better innings) than Sanju Samson. While wicketing skills are very important in Test cricket, Manjrekar said that being a good batsman in white-ball format (limited overs) is a good option. Ishaan Kishan is my favorite because I want to bat consistently. Keeping in limited overs cricket is not as important as in Test matches, it is still less important in T20s, so you really want to select the best batsmen.

“Samson’s bats are unbelievable when they are in rhythm. There is no one better than them. For me, consistency is more important and I would love to see Kishan on Sanju Samson. He (Yuzvendra), who had lost his place in the team in the last year or so, was a game-changer in the limited-overs Indian team.
Manjrekar is of the opinion that he can play as a batsman in the all-rounder Hardik Pandya team. Pandya did it last season against Australia. Hardik has proved himself in Australia to be fully capable of playing for the team as a batsman, and there is no doubt he can do it now. Former Indian batsman Ajay Jadeja was also part of the conversation. He backed young Karnataka batsman Devadut Padikal to open the innings against Sri Lanka. I like Devadat Padikkal. He is the future, but you too have Prithvi Shah. Whether to give any team a chance depends on the people running the team at that particular moment. I kept Padikkal in the squad (playing XI), he was a special batsman.
