The Karnataka government has allowed all shops and business establishments with 10 or more employees to work 24 hours a day with certain conditions. Currently this permission has been granted for three years. This move by the government is aimed at boosting job creation and growth. The state’s economy has been badly affected by the Kovid-19 pandemic.
Employers need to make this arrangement
Employers are required to hire additional employees, according to an official notification issued by the Department of Labor, which allows all employees to have one day off a week. The department said employers would not be able to take more than eight hours a day from work and more than 48 hours a week. Overtime must not exceed 10 hours on any given day and 50 hours in three consecutive months.
Strict action on violation of rules
If employees are found to be working overtime after the holidays or after normal working hours, the department will take legal action against employers / managers under Karnataka Stores and Establishment Act and Karnataka Stores and Commercial Establishment Rules. Under the Remuneration Act, employees’ pay or overtime payments are credited to their savings bank accounts, the notification said.
