Tamim Iqbal gains special status, joins Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag

In the first match of the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh scored 257 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Mushafikur Rahim scored an impressive 84 runs for the team and Tamim Iqbal scored 52. Tamim has earned a special place during this innings. He is the 10th batsman in the world to score 14,000 runs as an opener in international cricket. The list includes the names of legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle.

Tamim Iqbal has now scored 14011 runs in all three formats. In the first ODI against Sri Lanka, he scored 52 off 70 balls with 6 fours and a six. Former Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya holds the record for most runs as opener with 19298 runs. Sachin Tendulkar (15,335) and Virender Sehwag (16119) are also included in the list. Chris Gayle is second after Jayasuriya and has scored 18834 runs so far.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first, but the team did not start well and in the second over, Litton Das fell to Chamira without opening the account. After this, Shakib Al Hasan could do nothing special and he scored 15 off 34 balls. Tamim and Mushafiqur Rahim added 56 for the third wicket, but De Silva broke the partnership for the Bangladesh captain via LBW. Mahmudullah played a brilliant 54 runs and batted well in the lower order.
