Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said the deadline for the Fastag implementation would not be extended. The vehicle owners should immediately adopt this e-payment facility. Fastag facilitates electronic payment of fees on toll plazas.
It was introduced in 2016. The mandatory use of tags also helps to ensure that vehicles are allowed to pass through the toll plazas seamlessly. Responding to a question about Fastag at Nagpur airport, Gadkari said the government had extended the FASTAG registration deadline by two-three times and would no longer extend it. Now everyone should buy Fastag immediately.
In some ways, Fastag registration has risen to 90 per cent and only about 10 per cent remain, he said. Fastag is also available at toll points and people should use it for smooth traffic, he said. The central government has increased the mandatory fastagg deadline for vehicles from January 1, 2021 to February 15, 2021.
