There is no quarantine in UP-Uttarakhand

Farmers’ organizations, which have been protesting against the central government’s three agricultural laws for more than two months, blocked a nationwide drive on Saturday. However, it was decided not to block traffic in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Disagreements have now arisen among peasant leaders regarding this decision. In fact, Rakesh Tikite, national spokesperson of the Indian Kisan Union, has announced that the two states will not be blocked. Farmers’ leader Darshan Pal Singh has now called it a hasty decision without consultation.

Speaking to reporters Saturday after a nationwide circular jam, he said he had received nationwide support, once again proving that farmers across the country were united against the new agricultural laws. Asked about the decision not to block traffic in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Darshan Pal Singh said, “He (Rakesh Tikite) personally felt that violence could happen in UP and Uttarakhand.” I think they should have made a statement after talking to us. This is a hurried statement.

Commenting on the decision not to block traffic, Rakesh Tikit said in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Friday, “We have evidence that some of these places may try to spread violence, so we drove in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. We decided not to jam. But the people of these two states have been put on standby for the future, he said.

After the chukka jam was over, the protesting farmers’ unions said they were ready to negotiate with the government on Saturday, but a new proposal should be brought in as the government’s current proposal to suspend new agricultural laws from one to two. Half a year they won’t be accepted.

Farmer associations have made it clear that they will accept nothing less than the repeal of three new agricultural laws. At a press conference at the Singhhu border, United Farmers Front senior leader Darshan Pal Singh said the ball was now in government court. He said we were ready to negotiate. The ball is in government court. We clearly told them that the previous proposal (keeping the laws suspended for one and a half years) was unacceptable to us. Now they have to come up with a new proposal.
