Reducing petrol and diesel prices from 14 to 16 paise a liter is just a hoax, the transport company All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) said on Friday. The price of both fuels could be reduced to Rs 40 per liter, it said. The small reduction in the price of petrol and diesel will affect the election of these four states in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam, the AIMTC said.

AIMTC President Bal Milkit Singh said, “We welcome a nominal reduction of 14–16 paise in petrol and diesel prices in major cities of the country.” The reduction was made as a result of Brent crude oil prices falling from $ 70 a barrel in early April 2021 to $ 62 a barrel. In the national capital, the current price of petrol is Rs.90.40 per liter and diesel is Rs.80.73 per liter. Milkit Singh said, “Looking at this, it is still possible to bring the price down to Rs. 40 per liter.”
