Bangalore: The Union Government has allocated a total of 5612.50 km to the State of Karnataka under the third phase of the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak project for the rehabilitation and renovation of main roads and major Kuda roads, said KS Eshwarappa, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.

Speaking at a news conference in Bengaluru, he said the central government’s share of the project is 60 per cent and the state government’s share is 40 per cent. The Ministry of Rural Development has approved the development of 3226.21 km long rural roads at a total cost of Rs 2729.66 crore, including 445 road works and 26 long bridges.

The third phase of the tender process for all road and bridge works will be completed and various stages are in progress. The proposed 2410.93 km long road works are awaiting approval from the central government.

The central government’s proprietary scheme is being implemented in collaboration with Survey of India, State Revenue Department and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
