WI vs. SL: Sri Lanka all out for just 169 in the first innings, Jason Holder’s claw

The Caribbean team was named on the first day of the first Test match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan batsmen fell easily to Jason Holder’s spectacular bowling and the entire team was all out for 169 in the first innings. Holder took five wickets for 27 runs. By the end of the day, West Indies had scored 13 runs without losing a wicket in the first inning. Lahiru Thirimanne scored the highest score of 70 for Sri Lanka.

Earlier this month, Holder was replaced by captain of the Test squad, Craig Braithwaite, who decided to field first by winning the toss on Sunday. Holder left no stone unturned to prove the verdict and took five or more wickets in the innings for the eighth time in a Test. In the second session Kemar Roach bowled well and took three wickets for 47 runs. The West Indies had a chance to bat in the last hour of the day and they scored 13 runs without any damage until the stumps were dismantled. Braithwaite has played three wickets for 36 balls and John Campbell has seven wickets for 44 balls.

Earlier, only four Sri Lankan batsmen had reached double digits, with opener Lahiru Thirimanne scoring 70 runs. Only Niroshan Dikwela (32), Dhananjay DeSilva (13) and skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (12) were able to reach double digits. Thirimanne played 180 balls and hit four boundaries in his innings. Holder took the seventh wicket from the ball. Before the Test match, the West Indies beat Sri Lanka in T20 and ODI series.
