Vehicle Scrapage Policy Certificate: The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoARTH) has proposed to exempt the road tax on vehicles purchased under the Scrapage Policy. According to the Ministry, a 25% discount on road tax for private vehicles and a 15% discount on transport vehicles when buying new vehicles is proposed through the ScrapPage Certificate.
As part of the recently introduced new Scrapage Policy, this rule is intended to take effect from 1 October 2021. According to a notification issued by MoRTH, “Vehicle Owners can get up to 25% discount on Private Vehicle Registration and” Vehicle Scraping Certificate “at the same time, up to 15% discount on Transport Vehicles. The Ministry of Transport is seeking advice from stakeholders on these rules by next month, after which the Ministry will issue a final notification. Explain that the long-awaited vehicle scraping policy was announced in the Lok Sabha by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari earlier this month. The main purpose of this policy is to remove unfit and polluting vehicles from the road. In addition, the policy states that the purchase of new vehicles will also increase.
Announcing the scrapping policy, Gadkari said that if vehicle owners scrap their old vehicles, they can get a strong incentive, including a 25% discount on road-tax for private vehicles and a 15% discount for commercial vehicles. He also said that a 5% discount can also be obtained along with other benefits when buying a new vehicle when showing a scraping certificate.
What is the Scrappage Policy:
In this new policy, it is proposed that any commercial vehicle older than 15 years of age will fail to obtain a fitness certificate and their registration (de-registered) will be canceled. On the other hand, if private vehicles older than 20 years are found ineligible for a fitness test and cannot obtain a certificate, their registration (de-registered) will be canceled.
