The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to send the names of off-spinner R Ashwin and Indian women’s cricket captain Mithali Raj for this year’s Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. The names of KL Rahul, Jaspreet Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan have also been sent to the Arjuna Award. Speaking to ANI, the source said, “We have discussed this in great detail and have come to the conclusion that Ashwin and Mithali Raj will be nominated for the Khel Ratna Award.”

Last year, Team India vice-captain Rohit Sharma, para-athlete Mariappan Thangavelu, table tennis champion Manika Batra, women’s wrestler Vinesh Phogat and hockey player Rani Rampal were honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Apart from Rohit, fast bowler Ishant Sharma and women’s cricket team member Deepti Sharma have been selected for the Arjuna Award

The application date has been extended by the Ministry of Sports
The Ministry of Sports has decided to extend the deadline for applications for the upcoming National Sports Awards 2021. The ministry has extended it for a week until July 5. National sports federations had to send applications before June 28. Many NSFs have sent applications, including tennis, boxing and wrestling, and now BCCI has also sent them. Odisha government has sent the name of Chand Chand for the Khel Ratna award.
