Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar is confident that talks will be held between the government and farmers’ unions soon and a solution will be found. Tomar believes artificial fears are spreading among farmers, and the government is doing its best to alleviate it. Special correspondent for ‘Hindustan’ in Farmers’ Movement Ramanarayan Srivastava While discussing, Tomar gave his impeccable opinion on various aspects of the movement from the government and the peasantry. Here are excerpts from the discussion with Tomar:
Q: What was the purpose of the previous government to introduce agricultural laws?
Answer: The price of the act is still in the interest of farmers. There were some problems that farmers had doubts about. Just tried to solve it. The purpose of the government was to increase competition to get the maximum value of the produce to the farmers. The licensed dealer was only buying in the knee. Now everyone can buy. If competition increases, farmers will also benefit.
Q: How to overcome the fear of the peasant minds?
Answer: If there is little doubt in the minds of the farmers it is the responsibility of the government to remove it, but it is an artificial fear. Leased farming is underway in many states but so far no land has been acquired. Enacted laws provide adequate protection for farmers.
Q: But the peasant movement of the whole country?
Answer: Not the whole country. The Mandi system is very powerful and decentralized in Punjab-Haryana. They feel it affects the knee areas, but farmers across the country are welcomed by the laws. Many organizations also wanted to come to Delhi for support, but we stopped them saying that the way out is through negotiations. Where is the farmer in Bharat bond on December 8? Even Punjab is not completely closed. Chupp activists of the Congress went out to support the bandh. In fact Congress is doing double party politics. He stated these laws in his manifesto. Despite the efforts of the UPA government, the pressure could not continue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not under pressure from anyone to decide what is in the best interests of the farmer. That is why Modi did it.
Q: If farmers are opposed, why the law?
Answer: The responsibility of the government is to the billionaires of this country. Those who oppose are not so great. The government makes laws that look at the whole country, which does not make or degrade the law by what anyone says or does. In a democracy, it is the responsibility of the government to give people the right to legislate and create laws for the public interest.
Q: Why are negotiations not successful?
Answer: We have been absolutely successful in conveying our content, but the people of the Union are unable to reach a decision because there is no consensus in the Union. The news from the last two days is very shocking. Elements of Leftist ideology continue to influence it. Trying to release the traitors. It is reprehensible and these factors are hindering the movement to reach a decision. Farmers are not opposed to Modi. Those who oppose every issue.
Q: How does the solution come out?
Answer: Negotiations with farmers will start soon. The government is ready and they are talking. We will soon reach a solution. True Farmer Representatives take this decision further and this chaos will end. The early farmers had come and the farmers were talking as they were. Negotiations have not yet reached the final stage. I hope the peasant association understands and soon leaves the movement and falls into the path of dialogue.
Q: What is the government’s stance?
Answer: When you go to do good, there is some pain. History can only be made by those beyond history. Those who continue in line cannot make history. No changes can be made. This is the problem in Modi ji and they are doing it. The UPA government also wanted to do this but could not.
