IND vs ENG: Ben Stokes’s big statement, half the team’s batsmen who can’t face spin bowling like Root

The first Test of the four-Test series between India and England is being played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. England’s batsmen are fully named for both the days of the Test so far. Team captain Joe Root batted spectacularly on the second day, scoring his 5th double century of his career, helping England score 555 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Apart from Root, Ben Stokes played a brilliant innings of 82 and shared 125 runs for the fourth wicket with the captain. Meanwhile, Stokes has made a big statement that half of England’s batsmen cannot handle spin bowling, such as Root.

Speaking at an online press conference, Ben Stokes said: “The way he plays, the batting is easy and I was quite surprised by the way he went ahead and hit a double century with a six. He’s in good rhythm. He makes spin things so easy and it is incredible to see half the England batsmen spin. Joe Root completed his double century with India’s spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, who became the first batsman to score a double century in the 100th Test match in Test cricket history.

The England all-rounder acknowledged that the squad is currently very strong. He said, “After running away from the game, it is good to come back and score some runs, but I think we are in a very strong position. We batted first. We scored over 500 (555 per eight) before the third day of the game and with two wickets remaining, we were in a very strong position. In India, if you don’t score as many runs by winning the toss and batting as in India, you are called an idiot and if we can play an hour tomorrow, we will be happy.
