In fact, the incident occurred during the 87th over of an innings when Joe Root was bowling and Rishabh was in a pant strike. Pant avoided hitting Root’s balls and defending the ball. Fielding in his sleep, Ben Stokes stood back and commented on the pant, causing the angry Stokes to refuse to bat the pants until it was silent. Subsequently, he played the last two balls of the pant route. In his first Test against England, Pant scored 91 off 88 balls.
This was not the end of the matter, Ben Stokes and Pant appeared to be face-to-face once the crease was crossed after the route was over, and the negotiations became too much and the umpire had to intercept. In the last session, India lost three decisive wickets, including Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane. Rohit was dismissed by Jack Leach and Rahane by Moeen Ali. At the same time, Captain Joe Root drove Ravichandran Ashwin.
