Kalvakuntla Kavitha is an Indian politician and a Member of the Legislative Council for Kamareddy & Nizamabad. She founded Telangana Jagruthi, an organization that mobilized women and youth for peaceful and non-violent struggles for Telangana Statehood. Kavitha is the daughter of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the current Chief Minister of Telangana. Telangana Jagruthi, led by Kavitha, played a significant role in the movement for the creation of Telangana state.
Kavitha was awarded the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2017 for her contributions to women’s empowerment and social welfare. Kavitha is known for her eloquence and has delivered speeches in the United Nations and several other international forums. Besides her political career, Kavitha is also involved in various social welfare activities, including education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Kavitha on March 9 in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, following the arrest of her frontman, Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who is a liquor businessman. Kavitha had planned to lead a protest on March 9 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, advocating for women’s reservation in law-making bodies.
She was summoned by the ED ahead of the scheduled protest. The Delhi liquor policy case is related to allegations of irregularities and corruption in the issuance of licenses for liquor shops in the national capital. The ED is a law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing economic laws and fighting financial crimes in India.

After working as a software engineer in the USA, Kavitha returned to India in 2004 with a vision of serving the people of Telangana. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kavitha lost to BJP candidate Arvind Dharmapuri in the Nizamabad constituency. Following the formation of Telangana state in 2014, Kavitha contested and won the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency with a majority of over 1,64,184 votes.
