The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has long been working on the electric version of its famous hatchback WagonR. The car was spotted during testing on several different occasions. But in the past, this car was seen with a special variation, with the Suzuki badge logo on the front of the car. There have been rumors in the past that the car will be launched in the market with a Toyota badge, but now the specs are almost satisfied.
The exterior of this car is fully visible in the latest Spy Shot and it is clear that this car will be launched by Maruti Suzuki. As for the design, it is similar to the current WagonR’s general model. Its distinctive boxy design and tall boy look provide as much space inside the car as it does on the regular model.
Its front face is given a slightly more modern look, but it is also given a split headlamp setup. It differs from the general model. In the images, we can clearly see that the lower unit has the main headlamp, while the upper black bar has diversion indicators. Both turn indicators are attached to the black stripe, which features the Maruti Suzuki Lam has. If you look closely enough, you’ll be able to see the blue around the Lamong River, which indicates it’s an electric vehicle.
It does not have a conventional front grille, as it does not have the bonnet engine of an electric car that requires no cooling. However, there is a slim air dam at the bottom of the bumper that cools the power units. The side profile of this car is very similar to WagonR’s regular model. It includes alloy wheels from Ignis.
Some minor changes are also expected on the interior of this car. For example, it can get automatic climate control, a separate gear shifter and a slightly different instrument console. Its instrument cluster is optimized for electric vehicles, including information on battery and driving range. Maruti Suzuki is expected to support this electric car with SmartPlay Touchscreen Infotainment System for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
What’s the price:
However, it is difficult to say anything about the price of the Maruti Wagon R Electric before its release. But Maruti Suzuki has the image of affordable car makers in the domestic market and is the biggest player in the passenger segment. In this scenario, experts believe its price will be kept to a minimum. According to media reports, the car could be offered for Rs 10 lakh. Currently, the company is testing the car, with the company not yet officially announcing its launch.
