Lionel Messi | Lionel Messi leaves Barcelona; Letter to club management

Barcelona: Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has indicated his interest in leaving Spanish club Barcelona. Sources close to Messi told CNN that Messi had written to Barcelona informing them of this.

In July 2017, Barcelona extended their contract with Messi until June 30, 2021. But there is an indication in the contract that the team can leave at any time after the end of the season and the letter has been issued with this in mind.

Messi, a six-time Ballon d’Or winner, made his debut for Barcelona in 2004. He has helped Barcelona win 10 league titles during his time at the club. He also won the Champions League four times. The 33 – year – old Messi is one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Following the news, former Barcelona captain Carlos Puyol tweeted in support of Messi. ‘Honor and respect Leo. “All my support, my friend,” Puyol wrote on Twitter.

However, Barcelona’s response has not been forthcoming. If Messi leaves the club, very few teams will have the financial capacity to accommodate him. Leading the charge is English Premier League club Manchester City, coached by Pep Guardiola, who has a long association with Messi. Messi is also expected to join the Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi’s decision to end his contract with Barcelona comes after a heavy defeat to Bayern Munich. It was the most embarrassing defeat in the history of Messi and Barcelona.
