Maharashtra govt positive on reopening cinema halls

Mumbai: The industry is gearing up for the re-opening of cinema halls in Bollywood center point Maharashtra. Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh on Thursday said that they are in favor of reopening theaters in the state in line with Unlock 5. In Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, corona severity has had catastrophic consequences. This led to several sanctions. As part of this the theaters were closed. Deshmukh held a meeting with representatives of the Theater Owners Association on Thursday. The minister said that they were in favor of the opening of the theaters, but that the health and safety of the citizens was paramount.

The minister said he would discuss the reopening of theaters with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat. The Maharashtra government plans to re-open cinema halls in a proper manner in compliance with the Kovid rules. The Union Home Ministry has issued guidelines to allow theaters to reopen from the 15th of this month with a seating capacity of 50 per cent. However, the latest lockdown guidelines issued by the Maharashtra government on the day of the announcement decided to close cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, multiplexes, markets, auditoriums and conference halls.

However, it has been revealed that the state government is now considering the appeal of the theater owners. It is possible to allow the reopening of theaters. However, the minister made it clear that the safety of the citizens was of utmost importance to them and that all this should be given due priority. Producers are preparing to release several ambitious big budget movies in theaters as the sector prepares for the reopening of theaters.
