Movement Against Agricultural Reform Law: 3 Ministers and 35 Farmer Leaders Churned for 2 Hours, but Postponed until 3 December

Farmers campaigning against the central government’s three agrarian laws in states like Punjab and Haryana spoke to the Modi government on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by three ministers of the central government including the minister of agriculture. 35 leaders of various farmers organizations were present in this dialogue with the government and farmers. However, no solution could be found for the two-hour-long talks, which would then be held again on December 3. At the meeting, the government set out to form a committee to review the demands of the farmers. However, the government’s proposal was met with strong reaction from representatives of 35 movement organizations.

Peasant leaders demanded the repeal of the laws

According to news agency sources, during a two-hour meeting with farmer representatives, representatives of farmer organizations were of the opinion that three new agricultural laws should be repealed. Representatives of farmers called these laws against the interests of the farming community. Farmers have expressed fears that the minimum support price (MSP) system will be broken by the central government’s agricultural laws and farmers will be left at the mercy of big industrial companies. However, the government is constantly saying that the new laws will provide better opportunities for farmers and introduce new technologies in agriculture.

The talks will be held again on December 3

Negotiations between peasant leaders and the three Union ministers were not resolved. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar exited the meeting and said the talks would be held again on December 3. Narendra Singh Tomar said, “We wanted to form a small group, but farmer leaders want to have a dialogue with everyone.” We have no problem with this. “At the same time, Boku (Ekta Ugrahan) president Jogindra Singh Ugrahan said the government’s negotiations with the protesting farmers’ organizations were disappointing.
