Muharram 2020: Supreme Court did not allow Muharram procession across the country

Muharram 2020: Supreme Court has refused to allow Muharram to take out a procession across the country. In its judgment on Thursday, the Supreme Court said, how a general order can be issued for the whole country. The apex court has asked the petitioner to go to Allahabad High Court. A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V. Ramasubramanian was hearing a PIL by Shia leader Syed Kalbe Jawwad.

Chief Justice SA Bobde said, you are demanding a general order and if we allow it, chaos will spread. Special communities will be targeted to spread the corona epidemic. We do not want this. As a court we cannot endanger the health of all people.

CJI said, this will create chaos and target a particular community for the spread of Kovid.

According to Chief Justice SA Bobde, Jagannath Puri’s case was of a particular place where the chariot had to go from “A” place to “B” place. Had it been a location issue, we could have passed the order by assessing the danger. Hearing from the video conferencing, the bench allowed the petitioner to withdraw the petition with the exemption that he could go to the High Court with a limited demand for the procession in Lucknow.
