New Rule of Driving License: The government has made a major change in its rules today, making the process of obtaining a driving license easier. Driving license applicants no longer have to go through the tedious process of obtaining a driving license through the Regional Transportation Offices (RTO). The central road ministry’s revised rule on issuing a driving license has come into effect from today.
In fact, the Ministry of Transport has issued new regulations for the accreditation of driver training centers. Candidates will be given high quality driving courses, and after passing the test, they will be exempted from driving test at the time of obtaining a driving license.
How is the training done?
Under the new rule, a dedicated driving test track will be installed along with simulators to provide high quality training to applicants at accredited driving training centers. There, applicants will be fully trained on driving so that they can learn the basics of driving and drive smoothly on the road.
How long does it take to learn to drive a light vehicle (LMV):
The notification issued by the ministry states that the duration of the light motor vehicle course at accredited driver training centers is 29 hours in maximum 4 weeks from the date of commencement of the course. This means that applicants must learn to drive within a maximum of 4 weeks after the announcement of the start of the driver course. It is also mentioned that this course covers both theory and practice.
How long does it take to learn to drive a heavy vehicle (HMV):
At the same time, the ministry has set a time limit for learning to drive heavy motor vehicles. According to this notification, the duration of the medium and heavy motor vehicle course in accredited driver training centers is 38 hours over a six-week period. This course is divided into practical and theoretical. In addition, drivers are taught some basics about ethical and courteous behavior and other essential road-related rules.
These accredited driving centers will not only train driving and heavy vehicles, but will also provide training for vehicles belonging to any industry. In fact, the government believes these new rules will also fill the shortage of skilled drivers. Lack of competent drivers is one of the major problems on Indian roads and one of the major problems in this segment.
Please note that the accreditation granted to these accredited driver training centers is valid for a period of five years. These can be further updated. A large number of road accidents occur due to ignorance of road rules.
