PM Modi gifted a grand gift to 6 states on the first day of New Year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the lighthouse project in six locations in six states under the Global Housing Construction Technology Competition-India (GHTC-India), with video conferencing at around 11:30 am on January 1, 2021. This is Modi’s first program of the new year.

Under the Lighthouse project, the central government will build over 1000-1000 houses in six cities – Indore, Chennai, Ranchi, Agartala, Lucknow and Rajkot. Hordeep Singh Puri, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, is also present on the occasion as the Chief Ministers of Tripura, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched a challenge to states and UTs in 2017 to select six locations across the country for the construction of ‘lighthouse projects’ under GHTC-India. The Ministry has encouraged all states and Union Territories to actively participate in the challenge and announced the provision of ‘lighthouse projects’ to six states and has scored high marks according to the standards set by UTs.

According to the Guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban), the central assistance for the construction of projects in these states was provided. In addition, a Technology Innovation Grant (TIG) was also made to address the problems associated with the use of new technologies and economies of scale and to address any additional cost impacts due to other related factors. Under this project, earthquake resistant homes will be built and it will be very affordable.
