Rasheed appoints Shashanka Bhide to RBI MPC – Indian News Live

New Delhi: Shashank Bhide of Belthangadi taluk in Dakshina Kannada district has been appointed to the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).

Central government economists Shashank Bhide, Ashima Goyal and Jayant. R Verma has appointed him. The new member term will be 4 years.

The Cabinet Appointment Committee (CCA), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the selection of members of the Monetary Policy Committee. The central government issued a notification on Monday.

Who is Shashank Bhide?
Born in Mundaja, Belthangady taluk, Shashank Bhide graduated from Bangalore Agricultural University in 1973 with a primary school education in Ujire.

He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Iowa, USA. Shashank Bhide worked as a Staff Economist at the Iowa Agricultural and Rural Development Center from 1980-82.

From 1982 to 1993, he held various positions at the National Applied Economic Research Council (NCAER). From 1993 to 2002, he served as chief economist at NCAER. He was a guest lecturer at the South Asia Research Center in Australia from 1998-1999.

He has been a professor and head of the RBI unit at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, 2003 – 2004. He was also the Director of the Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai. Currently appointed as Senior Advisor to NCAER, New Delhi.
