SC panel members said – protesting farmers get justice

Anil Ghanwat, one of the members of the Supreme Court Committee on Agricultural Laws and president of the Maharashtra-based Farmers Organization, said that “protesting farmers get justice”.

“This agitation should be stopped and law enforced in the interests of the peasantry,” Ghanwat told news agency ANI. First we need to listen to the farmers. If they have any misconceptions about the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), we will clarify. They need to be assured that what is happening is in their best interests.

After the court blocked the implementation of agricultural laws on Tuesday, a four-member committee was formed to listen to the grievances of protesting farmers and to contact the government on the issue. The committee must submit its report to the court within two months.

“Many peasant leaders and associations want independence from the monopoly of the APMC. It needs to be stopped and farmers have the freedom to sell their crops. This has been a demand for the past 40 years.
