Supreme Court adjourns hearing on Arnab Goswami’s plea for two weeks

The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing on the privilege notice issued on behalf of the Secretary of State of Maharashtra by Arnab Goswami, the editor of Republic TV. The Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice to the Secretary of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for allegedly threatening Arnab Goswami on October 13 as the Supreme Court reached against the privilege notice.

Also, the court has suspended Goswami’s arrest in this case. The Maharashtra Chief Secretary has issued a privilege notice against Arnab Goswami for criticizing Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Two weeks later, the Supreme Court instructed the Assembly Secretary to attend the next hearing of the case. Until then, the court has suspended Goswami’s arrest in the case. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde has appointed senior lawyer Arvind Datar as amicus curiae in the case.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court said the letter was seriously interfering with the administration of justice because it threatened Goswami to go to court. Justices AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian have described the letter as unprecedented and shocking.
